It takes time to plan and facilitate an online course that is effective and addresses the issues that might arise when working remotely. Virtual facilitators (the person responsible for ensuring the workshop is run smoothly and actively engages the participants) are required to adapt quickly on the in the moment.

Other studies, including those by Malone et. and. and Hartmann included a portion of training for facilitators within the organization that focused on acquiring skills, competencies, and knowledge specifically relevant to virtual facilitation.
